Emotional Intelligence

PDF | Print | E-mail

Duration:1 day.

Introduction: As human beings, we create our emotions. Our bodies respond chemically to match the emotions we feel. Emotional Intelligence looks at how ‘inappropriate’ emotions are developed and displayed and at ways in which we can consciously control these and choose the behaviours we would most like to display across situations. Participants are taught how to perceive and deal with their own emotions and those of others through the following:

  1. Awareness of self — the ability to effectively understand oneself through our emotions and to read and control these feelings, attitudes, assumptions and behaviours.
  2. Awareness of others — the ability to perceive, understand, and react appropriately to the feelings, attitudes, assumptions and behaviours of the people around us.

Detailed outline: Gone are the days of pure technical training i.e. being trained in skills necessary to get the job done as quickly and efficiently as possible. There is a strong need for increased emotional intelligence in the workplace today in order to develop strong relationships, enjoy fulfilling careers and manage the stresses associated with balancing work and personal lives. With the world placing more and more emphasis on relationships and interpersonal interactions, this programme ensures that delegates are sufficiently equipped with the Emotional Intelligence skills needed in order to ensure success in today’s complex environment.

Emotional Intelligence also focuses on the ways in which we view ourselves and achieve optimal personal growth. It is essential in today’s environment that you have a healthy relationship with yourself and with others, that you identify your needs and set goals for yourself. In today’s frenzied work environment, there is little time available for this kind of introspection and this programme allows delegates to take stock of their goals, relationships, needs and wants.

This is also offered as an individual (one-on-one) coaching intervention.
